BOHEME: how to plan a classic Italian bathroom

BOHEME is Alice Ceramica's classic collection: rounded rims, soft curves and glossy white ceramic, made for period homes, country houses and anyone who wants a bathroom that looks as if it has always been there. It is also the only Alice range with exposed ceramic cisterns, pull chains and a freestanding bath. This guide explains how the pieces fit together, with the measurements from Alice Ceramica's technical sheets.

The short answer

• For a full Victorian look: back-to-wall WC with a high-level cistern and pull chain, a console basin on ceramic legs and the freestanding bath.
• For a classic look with less plumbing work: the monoblock WC, with its cistern sitting directly on the bowl.
• For a classic look with modern cleaning: the wall-hung WC and bidet, which keep the BOHEME shape but leave the floor free.

Choosing the WC

BOHEME comes in three WC configurations. Sizes below are from the Alice Ceramica technical sheets (depth × width × height).

• Wall-hung WC (28230101S): 54 × 36.5 cm. Needs an in-wall frame with a concealed cistern and the FIX10 fixing kit.
• Back-to-wall WC (28400101): 54 × 36.5 × 42 cm, with floor (S) or wall (P) outlet. Pair it with a high-level or low-level ceramic cistern, or a concealed cistern. Fix it with the FIX05F floor kit.
• Monoblock WC (28480101): 74 × 36.5 × 42 cm. Add the close-coupled cistern and its flushing system.

High-level or low-level cistern?

Both mount on the wall above the back-to-wall WC, and both are glazed ceramic in glossy white.

• The high-level cistern sits high on the wall and flushes with a pull. Its flushing system comes in chrome, or with a white porcelain pull and a gold or bronze chain. It is the most recognisable Victorian detail.
• The low-level cistern sits just above the bowl, with a lever in chrome, gold or bronze via the low-level flushing system. It suits lower ceilings and sloping roofs.

The bidet

There is a matching bidet for each WC type: wall-hung (54 × 36.5 cm) and back-to-wall (57 × 37 × 42 cm, single tap hole). Leave roughly 15–20 cm between WC and bidet; our spacing and heights guide has the details.

The console basin

The BOHEME basins are wide consoles with a generous ledge for soap and toiletries. Each comes with ceramic legs or without, for wall-hung installation.

• Console 70: 70 × 56.5 cm
• Console 95: 95 × 58 cm
• Console 112: 112 × 64 cm

Tap, drain and siphon are sold separately. A ceramic Free Flow or Up&Down drain keeps the look all-ceramic, and the round siphon stays neat under a console with legs. See which waste to choose.

The freestanding bath

The BOHEME bath is acrylic, 170 × 80 cm and 72 cm high according to the technical sheet. Plan its position before tiling: a freestanding bath needs space around it, and the floor waste must line up with the drain.

Finishing touches

• The BOHEME soft-close seat comes in white or walnut, with chrome, gold or bronze hinges. It fits BOHEME WCs only.
• Match the metal: choose the same finish (chrome, gold or bronze) for seat hinges, flushing lever or chain, and taps.
• All BOHEME ceramic is glossy white, with an antibacterial glaze enriched with silver, titanium and zinc ions.
